Jacob^4 Van Wicklen (Garret^3, Gerrit^2, Jentie^1 JEPPES) was b. 28 October 1741 and bap. 19 Nov 1741 Wolver Hollow.
He died 10 November 1833 at the age of 92 and was buried in Success, LI (Success deaths, JCF, p. 42). He married (c. 1770-1)
Maria Nostrand, dau. of Gerrit and Maria (Vanderbilt) Nostrand of East Woods, Oyster Bay. Maria was b. 21Feb1753 and
bap. Success 24 April 1753. She d. 13 July 1840. Jacob Van Wicklen lived in Wolver Hollow and between 1776 and 1816 held many
town offices (Highways Overseer and Commissioner, Overseer of the Poor, Assessor, Justice of the Peace), served as Moderator
of Town Meeting and on various town committees. He obtained a church seat in 1785 and was for many years a member of the
Consistory, which often met at his home. All but two of his children were bap. at Wolver Hollow. Jacob^4 is progenitor of all
the later Van Wicklens in the town of Oyster Bay.
The 1790 Queens Census provides a listing for Jacob Van Wicklen with 2 “free white males” over 16 (himself and oldest
son,Garret), and 5 “free white males” under 16 (John, Jacob Jr., Abram, Daniel, and Isack--Hendrycke not born until 1791)
and 3 “free white females” (wife Maria and dau. Marya and Helena--Maria not born until 1797. No slaves listed for Jacob. The
1790 Census also lists John Van Wicklen (brother of Jacob^4) with one other male over 16, presumably his brother, Abraham.
These two brothers apparently never married.
Children: Garret^5 Van Wicklen was b. 3 December 1771 and bap. 8 December 1771 (Helena (Amerman) Van Wicklen witnessed),
Wolver Hollow, NY and d. bef. 19 October 1811 (date of burial). He m. Janatye Simonson 16 July 1794 and had son, Jacob,
daughters Femmitie, Maria, and Jane; Marya^5 (Mary) Van Wicklen was b. 16 May 1774 and bap. 24 May 1774 (witnesses: G.
Nostrand and wife; and Wyntie Luyster), Wolver Hollow, NY. She died 25 January 1797 at age 22. (Hegeman Diary, p. 63, herein deceased
died 25 January 1797, Jacob Van Wicklen's daughter; stone lists "MVW 1797"--buried at Brookville);
John^5 Van Wicklen was b. 24 September 1776 (Cedar Swamp) and m. Elizabeth Monfoort 3 January 1803. He died 3 February 1849;
Jacob^5 Van Wicklen was b. 21 October 1779, Wolver Hollow, NY and m. Annatie
Snedecker; Abram^5 Van Wicklen b. 3 June 1782 and bap. 14
July 1782, Wolver Hollow, NY. He did not marry. He died 1827; Helena^5
Van Wicklen was b. 26 September 1784, and bap. 3 October 1784 at the Wolver Hollow RDC sponsored by Annatye Hardenburgh. She m. at Wolver Hollow, LI to George Monfort 2 July 1805.
George is the son of Peter and Sara (Luyster) Monfoort and was b. 19 August 1786 (baptised 10 September 1786 as Jores).
Helena died 11 September 1868 in East Norwich, L.I. George, Helena, and son John are bur. next to each other in Brookville
Cemetery. Sarah Monfort, dau. of George and Helena m. David Nostrand LAYTON and David (as well as an earlier David
LAYTON, m. to Helena Van Wicklin, b. 5 October 1737 are ancestors of Harry Macy, Jr., Editor of NewYork Geneological
Record and author of several articles on the VW family; Daniel^5 Van Wicklen b. 8 February 1787 and bap. 26 March 1787,
Wolver Hollow, NY. He m. Sarah Luyster 21 November 1808, and m. Elizabeth Ann Baylis, 21 September 1837. He died 18
October 1874; Isaack^5 Van Wicklen was b. 7 June 1789 and bap. 28 June 1789, Wolver Hollow, NY. He did not marry. He
was living with brother, Hendrick, in 1850; Henderick^5 (Henry) Van Wicklen was b. 11 September 1791 and bap. 16 October
1791, Wolver Hollow, NY. He married Sarah "Sally" Weeks on 4 November 1820, Oyster Bay, NY with Rev. M. Earle, the
minister of record. Sally Weeks was b. abt. 1800 and is the daughter of Isaac and Charlotte Weeks.
The 1860 US Census for Hempstead, Queens, NY
lists Hendrick Vanwickle, age 69 (b. NY) and Sarah, 60, b. NY. He is listed as a
gentleman. Hendrick made a will 26 March
1881 and it was proved 17 March 1882; Maria^5 (Mary) Van Wicklen
was b. 10 November 1797 and bap. 17 December 1797, Wolver Hollow, NY.
